Development Programs

DGI directs two specific programs to help attract investment within the Downtown BID District. In addition, we commission studies and track data that can be helpful in making investment decisions and keep up with local ordinances that can impact development.  Please contact us directly if we may assist you with data tracking when determining business growth downtown.

  • DGI FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
DGI can provide up to $5,000 to improve the exterior of a building. A simple application must be submitted prior to construction to qualify for funds.

  • DGI CATALYST GRANT PROGRAM
The DGI Catalyst Grant Program is designed to support the economic vitality of Greensboro's Central Business Distract by providing financial assistance for the enhancement and/or redevelopment of eligible commercial properties. The program will allow Downtown Greensboro Inc. to award financial assistance, at its discretion, to any property or business owner with a qualified project to help pay a portion of costs associated with renovating an existing commercial business space or preparing it for a new business venture. If you would like more information about our Catalyst Grants, please email rob@downtowngreensboro.org.

In addition to the two DGI-run grant programs above, the following resources may be helpful to business/building owners seeking financial support within the Downtown BID district:

  • GREENSBORO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND
The Greensboro Community Development Fund (GCDF) is a certified Community Development Financial Institution that provides financial assistance to small businesses underserved by traditional financial institutions. The GCDF provides clients with training and technical assistance to support development and offers loans, subordinated debt, and equity investments often ranging from $10,000-$25,000. www.gcdfonline.org

  • URBAN DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENT GUIDELINES
High-quality development and redevelopment projects in downtown that exceed $1,500,000 in investment may be eligible for consideration of funding assistance provided they are consistent with the City’s development goals and exhibit a demonstrated need for public participation. To determine eligibility for City Council consideration, applicant projects will be scored on how well they meet criteria related to promoting reinvestment, preservation, diversification, and intensification of activity that reinforces downtown’s importance as the economic, cultural, and civic center of the City. Find out more information here.

  • HISTORIC TAX CREDITS
For more information on federal and state historic preservation tax credits, contact the State Historic Preservation Office in Raleigh at 919-807-6590.

  • BANKS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
