The Greensboro Amtrak Station located in Downtown Greensboro and is served by three passenger trains: the Crescent Carolinian and Piedmont. Originally built in 1927 as the Greensboro Southern Railway Depot. It was donated to the city in 1978 a year before the Southern Railroad finally ceased its passenger service. It wasn't reopened to the public until October 1 2005. Of the 16 North Carolina stations served by Amtrak Greensboro was the third-busiest in 2010 boarding or detraining an average of approximately 290 passengers daily.
